[Disclaimer: I have a very oily skin which is pretty much sensitive, so my base-makeup routine is actually adopted with all oil-free products, I'll try to mention products for dry skin too. Let's see how this turns out to be :D ]
Step 1: Cleanser: Clean your skin with a daily facewash which suites you, for oily skin try to use one oil-control facewash, for dry skin any moisturizing facewash. Dont forget to wash off your facewash with enough water to assure that there is no residue left. Now Softly towel dry your face.

Step 2: Toner : After cleansing for mainly oily and sensitive skin one should use a toner, or one astringent. Use cotton balls to put the toner on, and let it dry. (Cotton ball packet- 60 tk per packet, available in priyo). My favorite toners are - Clinique Clarifying lotion 3 which is a pore minimizing while oil controlling toner, Clean n Clear oil control toner, Clean n Clear astringent.
Step 3: Moisturizer: For Oily Skin: I pretty much love clean n clear oil free moisturizer. That one is really oil free while serves its purpose of moisturizing too. I tried lacto kalamine, liked it too to some extend, but clean n clear one is better. I also tried body shop aloe day cream, which is good, but after some hours, face gets oily as it does not control oil producing i guess. So it's simple, use a moisturizer which suites you.
Dry skin people, you must use a really moisturizing one like nevia or whatever suites you.
Step 4: Primer: For a flawless base primer is like a must must must have! My present personal favorite is the Smashbox photo finish face primer transparent one ( $15 travel size- available in sephora, ulta). I also love the ELF mineral face primer, it's a very good one which can fit in your low budget anytime. Here I m using ELF one as I know most of the girls in bangladesh (who r connected to makeup things) use ELF one.
Step 6: Applying the foundation on:: I'm gonna use my Revlon colorstay liquid foundation for oily/combination skin.
1st shake the bottle, pour a little amount on ur hand;s back or on a plastic plate, or mirror plate if u have any, I my self find the hand back method messy, so I use a plastic plate like this:
Photo in sunlight---> foundation set with powder, This Milani has a tan shade in it! :s I wish it was more yellow than being this tan!

The steps mentioned before are actually in the skin care routine, main base makeup steps start here!!
So lets have my no Makeup view, My skin quality is really bad with lots of scars, spots, dry patches , and what not!

So here is my No-Makeup Face -__-

Step 5: Concealer : If u have major spots to cover, or if u need a undereye dark circle remover use one concealer as per your need. There r two types of concealers one is liquid one is stick or creamy. At this moment I have no concealer though I have major scars to cover, I pretty much use my revlon colorstay foundation in layer to cover the spots! I have ordered Missha's style concealer , hope will get my hand on it soon!
anyways, to conceal use a concealer brush, or u may use ur finger tip, Real technique's concealer brush is a very good one to work with. Dab the concealer with the brush on the spots, dot swing it. Try to cover with a thin layer, with a good finish so that it does not look cakey. I normally do concealing before applying foundation, but I have heard of it doing after foundation which is also a pretty good way to cover.
U can make this plate by cutting down any plastic sheet which r available in home or U can buy from modern book house.
And This my Favorite tool for wearing my foundation on! This is the beauty-blender by Fantasea Cosmetics, available in amazon.com.
If I want full coverage I use it dry, When I want sheer coverage I use it with water.
If I want full coverage I use it dry, When I want sheer coverage I use it with water.
As I am doing this tutorial for a full makeup, I'll go for dry sponge. This is what one layer looks on me blended with dry blender:
Now if u see there r areas where u need more coverage, in those areas layer this foundation with blender carefully so that the previous layer does not slip away, or it does not look cake-y.
So customize this step according to ur skin's demand :)
Step 7: Makeup setting Spray: This step is specially needed for oily skin people to extend make-up staying time, to reduce the melting down probability. My favorite ones are - Urban decay All nighter, and ELF makeup setting Spray. U can also use the mac fix +. So whatever the brand is, I spray 1 puff on my beauty blender and then dab it on my face, I dont rub it on face, with little steps I cover my face precisely to set the foundation on my face, I also try to get an airbrush look thus.
Step 8: Compact/Pressed Powder: Set the foundation with a powder is a must for oily skin, or else it'll get shiny with time, Recently I have bought so many comapacts to experiment :s I guess I loved mostly the flormar compact and the Milani Multi tasker. Flormar is 400 Taka, Milani will cost almost 900 taka i think. The best finish of foundation setting with powder I got with powder puff, I use the ELF HD powder puff and with the help with it just dab the powder on the foundation to set it , here r the snaps:
U see this is a typical powder puff.
here I'm using the milani Multi-tasker in shade light tan - 04!

A tiny amount of it on puff, there u go, just press before ur skin and dab to get a smooth finish.
Get back to the areas which needs an extra push. Dab Dab Dab, and that's all.
Step 9: Optional: HD powder/loose powder:
If u feel like u can finish the look with a tiny amount of hd powder with a brush. I use ELF studio stipple brush! But loose powder is a mess for me! U can see how it is on like everywhere in the box -_-

This is the brush I use to give a final touch on my base, here is a tip, if u have visible pore areas, with a bit loose powder,or with nothing, just the brush, move the brush on the area with a round circular motion, with an average speed. U'll see how it minimizes the pore appearance :D

bookmarked it !!! thanks tasia!!! I absolutely hadn't even known the names of things to use, let alone the order or way. this coming from someone novice like me who have only used compact and stick concealer up to now. Which by the way doesn't actually cover anything. So I am really grateful and hoping to start browsing and practicing 'cause I really need a fully finished look to actually complement whatever I wear.
ReplyDeleteI too have really oily skin and open pores, blush or get reddened easily. lots of problems to cover
